As you can see there are quite a few suggestions out there, so let me give ya one more. Eagle Nest, NM. It is between , Angle Fire and Red River. They are ski resorts. It is off the beaten path, yet not that hard to get to. Maybe 50 miles from I-25. Camp with Dennis & Bridget at Eagle Nest. They plan something for you to every day. Free coffee in the mornings and always a crowd with an opinion.

You could always come up here to Ontario, Canada. We might share an igloo with you.

I'm from Michigan, the Upper Peninsula has some lovely places to camp,, You can visit Paradise (you'll be glad you made it) and Hiawatha's swiftly falling stream (Tahquamenon Falls State park/River) for eample.. Not as hot as it is where I am broke down
Where I am (Southern GA) I learn from the Mexicans and Siesta in the afternoons.

Vancouver Island, BC Canada. Dollar is 0.79 and it is beautiful, moderate temps, and typically sunny in July through mid September. Ferry from Anacortes, WA is half price for RVs, and the trip is worth the price. Victoria has many attractions, and there are good parks around the large island. West coast is breathtaking, but reserve early. Torino is a gem.

Where do you go to escape the Summer heat?
Northern Idaho. St. Maries area. Very nice. Our private campsite is at 3000 ft. Cool nights and low humidity almost all the time.

We don't boondock enough to give a good answer, and we have only RV's in southern BC and western Alberta (Banff area) in Canada.

We have enjoyed staying at South Fork Campground in South Fork, CO. It is located along the Rio Grande river. Very peaceful, cool, and campfire along the river bank.

We do things a bit backwards, living in the mountains of Colorado near Salida. We leave when we get tired of the snow, and go SW in the winter.
To answer the OP's question, when it gets too warm here (we have hit the 90's a bunch in the last few years), and if the wildfires are anywhere near the 4-corners area at the same time, it can be yucky, so time to head for Glacier National Park. If we just need a quick getaway, well we do live in Colorado, so that is an easy fix.
Thanks to all for the great ideas. Come on, summer!

Alaska every second year. It takes us that long to eat the fish we bring home.
