Where is the OBDII diagnostic plug on my 1998 Bounder?

The Bounder has a 454 and a P30 chassis. My manuals don't indicate where it is. I have searched the cockpit and contorted myself underneath the dash to no avail. Can someone please tell me where the plug is located?

Thanks
Dave

I'm fairly certain on this. Before 1996 the connectors were located in a lot of different places. Beginning in 1996 (when OBD II kicked in) the location was standardized so every technician and other person could find it. These are Federal guidelines so it does not matter what chassis you have.

They are always located somewhere around the steering column about mid-way between the top of the dash and the bottom of the dash front. There may be a cover over it so it's a littler harder to find. I know where to look and I had to contort myself in 6 different ways before I finally found it. We have a 2013 F-53 chassis by Ford and I located it it by removing my dash cover which is over the top and the steering column cover as well. There it was where I thought it was but just couldn't see the forest for the trees.

I looked, and looked, and looked, and looked rot it in my 2000 Bounder, finally found it on the steering column, right hand side.

Turns out that it can be seen through the small opening in the cowling near the steering column.

I not have a extension attached for easy plugging in my readers.

Don't know about your GM chassis but my 98 Itasca with the Ford chassis has OBD I and the connector for it is under the dog box in the left foreword corner.

rlyons,
Here's why yours was not located like the others. You were ODB I because the Fed Regs for 1996 ODB II applied to cars/trucks (small). The larger and presumably lower production numbers for larger trucks were delayed by a few years and did not have to complying with the Regs until a later date. My background is in dealing with passenger car/truck and I forgot about those delays based on production numbers.

Eventually all vehicles had to comply.
