Where should I look first for this issue?

Hi All,
On my previous motor home trip I had an issue that I would like to fix.
Start up the unit and run her on the highway and after a short period of time the Alternator Charge light goes on and the warning buzzer goes off. It starts out sporadically and then wont quit. The volt gauge reads normal range. I pull over and shut down the engine, wait a minute, start her up and pull out and it doesn't happen for the remaining 8 hour drive. This happened exactly the same going down and the return trip. So where do I look for what I think is a faulty sensor. In the electrical box outside, under dash, or go right for a mechanic? Thanks all

jmarmor. Could you give everyone some more info.
Coach brand and year , chassis type , engine . Maybe you can get some help.

Maybe take a min. and set up a signature line . Under " User CP " left hand side " Edit Signature " then this info will appear on your posts , so you don't have to type it in every time.

Sounds like a problem I had many years ago, turned out to be a bad alt and reg
that when it heated up it might work or might not.
I found it by putting it on a load bench and running it under load where I could watch
it.

The volt gauge "reading normal" can be discounted as it is probably reading battery volts. It does sound like a regulator problem...

Try turning the headlights on. You may not have enough draw on the coach batteries after charging to replace the energy used to start the coach. If I'm running my genset, my charge light and buzzer will often come on. If I turn my lights on it goes out.
