Which switch position is stage 1 or Stage 2 Jake Break 03 CC Intrique
When I was traveling in Eastern AZ coming down the hills I did not notice a significant difference in the Jake brake in the rocker forward or rocker backwards.
Does anybody know is the rocker forward stage 1?

Typically in Jake or "Compression" brake systems, multi-stage operations means more or less engine braking. If you don't know how a Jake/Compression brake works, look them up and you'll find encyclopedias of info on that subject. Basically, on a "two-stage" system, you'll have maybe 1 or 2 cylinders providing braking, in stage 1. In stage 2, you'll maybe 3 or, possibly 4 cylinders helping you brake. And, stage two should be significantly different in braking than stage one does.
On our fire trucks, we had 3 stage systems. 1, 3 and 5 cylinders were used for the different stages. If we used 5, it just about put you into the windshield . But, it was great brake enhancement and, really prolonged service brake longevity.

Looks like you have a jake on/off switch as well as a two position hi/lo switch. Was the jake brake sw in the 'on' position?
On our CAT, the low position is good on 5% or less grades, I use the hi position when 6% or more.

On my 02 Intrigue with the 400 ISL rear is the low stage, and forward is high.
If your using cruise control it will not work at all.

I would for sure think if you use it and do a quick test in both of the positions, you will be able to tell the difference from low to high..........unless there is a problem with it.

Whoa Nellie!
A careful read of the info in the link above may lead you to an option or configuration setup that can cause / correct your jake BRAKE issue. A trip to a Freightliner / Cummins shop that has a diagnostic computer would prove informative, in that they could tell you how your engine brake is configured.
trying to be helpful, is all.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!
All you need to do is, get out on long street, accelerate up to whatever speed you can achieve without attracting local law enforcement and, quickly let off the throttle with the switch on one position, note the braking action. Then, quickly flip the toggle to the other position, also noting the braking reaction. You should INSTANTLY be able to tell which is which, without calling anyone or making it harder than it is.

"Nellie59".....The best way to test is to try it at lower speeds. Test the switch at about 30 mph. On low you should feel a change. On high, it should almost pitch you forward. If you're not getting that, you have an issue. I'm not sure about CC and if they had two switches, one to turn the system on and one to switch stages.

With my ISL there wasn't a lot of difference between Low & High braking at highway speeds because the tranny was in 6th gear anyway. The difference between Lo & Hi became much more apparent as the tranny actually shifted down. Note that I'm talking about the "actual" gear, not the "target" gear.

Works with cruise on for my Pac exhaust brake, but not until it gets way above setting and at a setting of 55, it has to exceed 60 + on a downhill, for it to come on.

All the parameters as far as any engine braking is set up different by the chassis manufacture...........and is able to be "Customized" by the owner if desired........
