Why "Air Dump"?
We are getting ready to go Full Timing in 3 days and I have been reading all the good info. that our fellow experts have given and I want to thank one and all.
I halfway understand the diesel, and most of the thousand switches and buttons inside and out on our 2006 Holiday Rambler, but something I still don't understand is "Air Dump".
What is the purpose of an air dump system?

On those motorhomes that have air bags for suspension, "dumping" the air bags lowers the motorhome. This shortens the distance the jacks need to extend when leveling the motorhome.

It also allows for leveling without the air bags pulling the axles up.
It is not good for the air bag attachments for this to be done.

It also places your steps closer to the ground.

It's a shorter fall to the ground when you trip over your dog at the top of the stairs.

Plus it's just cool to pull into a campsite with all eyes on the newbie to make a show of releasing air and squatting the bus.
Because you can.

So when you park for overnight, you dump the air? Do you dump when refueling or stopping for a bite to eat?
Thinking of a diesel that has air suspention and "dumps".

You would only dump the air when setting up camp, when you are going to use the leveling jacks.
There is no need to dump for temporary stops.

yup.
I usually help release the air by stroking the brake pedal repeatedly. Makes really cool sounds!

I USUALLY exit upright and facing forward, but that hasn't always been the case. I actually did trip over the dog once, resulting in an impromptu impression of a breech birth.

I've done the brake thing (my coach doesn't have an air dump system) but it doesn't seem to lower the coach unless I lift it on the jacks, and then lower it -- but that actually causes the coach to shift forward (because of the trailing arm suspension geometry) which dragged the jack stands -- so I only did it once.
But it sure is nice. I have put installing airdump and leveling on my list

A good air dump helps dust off the parking pad too.
