Why are Class A motorhomes designed by the criminally insane?

Let me start this by saying there may not be anyone on this forum who knows less than I do about a motorhome. So if you DO NOT want to read something with no value or substance please Do NOT continue reading!

The last letter from my mom said “I know you can’t read very fast so I’m writing this very slow”! If that doesn’t stop you from reading you’re on your own!

FLOORPLAN
1. You walk into a motorhome where you see a couch on both sides of the floorplan. So far so good!
2. Many have two TV’s in the living area and you’re thinking “Oh Great”! Then you figure out (some not until they purchase the darn thing) one TV is 20 plus feet towards the bedroom and the other is hanging above the driving station.
Conclusion: The motorhome industry has a direct connection to chiropractic services. Who the heck wants to lay down to watch their TV?
3. Fireplace, who doesn’t want a fireplace, if you don’t want one at least don’t admit it here on the forum. All of us want a fireplace it’s un-American not to have one!
Conclusion: It’s hearth - home & dog right? You can do without the dog but not without the hearth!

COACH EXTERIOR
4. Slides on the patio side. This is so great, you’re enjoying the outdoors with one or two slides right where the outside living area is. Hey who doesn’t enjoy bumping into a slide a few times a day.
Conclusion: Bedroom slide only on the patio side, who the heck needs six to seven feet of hall space in our motorhome?
5. Awning. This is so great, you get 18 feet of awning and that’s just so great right? Oh but then you have two slides underneath the awning each taking up 2 to 3 feet. So you set a table and chairs 3 feet away from the slides to sit and be able to walk around and guess what? Some are sitting in the rain!
Conclusion: If you must have patio slides, put one long slide and put the awning on the slide not the coach!
6. I decided to stop here to give all of you a chance to settle down and rethink some of the terrible names you have in mind for me.

I have more "pearls" of wisdom to share with you but thought I’d "clam" up for now. I told you not to continue reading! I told you that right off, you remember that right?

Your comments are pretty much on. I would add, why would someone put a bathroom where the driver and/or passenger can only get it by climbing over furniture? Some, but not all, have that wonderful feature. The idea of having a rig that is several hundred thousands of dollars that does not have a TV that can be seen directly from the couch makes no sense whatsoever. TV's at right angles to the furniture is just bizarre!

So, it looks like the floorplan is designed by the criminally insane and the interior is designed by a great-grandmother.

Who are the insane ones, those who design them or those who keep buying them built that way?

I fail to see the criminal part of the observation.

I agree with you we looked at so many that we really couldn't understand what they were thinking when they designed it. But that's why you really need to look at all the floorplans and outside designs of a MH and pick the one that works best for you. As I have said in previous threads, quality is defined by the one who is making the purchase, and for different people it means different things. If you do your research you can find it all in the same MH. Ours has three TV's, one in the living room in front of the L-shaped couch, right over the fireplace, one in the bedroom, at the end of the bed mounted on the wall in the middle, and one outside, under the 20 foot awning. Two slides, one on each side neither of which is in the awning space, like you said bedroom slide on awning side, and not under the awning. This pretty much covers everything you have mentioned so far. The design of ours among many other things is the reason we love our Canyon Star and intend to keep it for a very long time.

Neck injuries man, neck injuries! Not even to mention the self inflected mental abuse you put yourself through. Like Lifemember said "Who are the insane ones, those who design them or those who keep buying them built that way?"

There are floor plans available that don't have any of those drawbacks (or stupid design).

The Tiffin 31SA, 32SA, and 36LA were designed by sane people that took into account your noted design flaws,(although, just one couch) which are also some key points as to why we got a 31SA, and are extreme happy with it.....

And as a bonus, the separate head (split bath) is large enough that your don't have to trip over the toilet to stand in front the sink (and they "fixed" the cabinet over the sink in 2016s so you do t have to worry about hitting your head when you brush your teeth.....)

Oh, and when we ordered ours, we were going to save money by omitting the fireplace option, but are actually happy we added it at the last minute to the spec...... It's nice to warm up the coach on a chilly evening or morning, it really is.......

Loved the 36LA but the combo washer/dryer under the master bath countertop was a stopper!

People always had bad things to say about Alfa motorhomes, but one thing the company did very right was not having any living room slide on the patio side. There's a small one in the bedroom, way in the back.

And I like lying down while watching TV.
