Why is the DEF on the wrong side!?

I would love to be able to fill up my DEF at the truck/diesel station, but the dang thing is on the passenger side of the coach, and every truck stop I have been to has "my" DEF on the driver's side. Why, oh why didn't Fleetwood put the DEF tank on the driver's side?!

I even asked if I could use the neighbor DEF at a Station once, but they denied it. Ugh. Stick with those square plastic bottles I guess.....

It takes a while to finalize an engineering design. My guess is that Fleetwood finalized their design before the bulk fill option even became available. Obote that the most recent itaska unit I looked at had the def on the drivers side. Look for future Fleetwood units to have the def on the drivers side is my guess...

Maybe so that some motor home owner won't get mixed up and put diesel in the DEF tank or vise versa

Major reasons are 1) where coach builders had available space, 2) the proximity to the exhaust system, 3) lack of coordination with the truck manufacturers who decided that DEF tanks/fillers should be close to the diesel tank/fillers and fuel stations that designed their DEF pumps for the truckers.

I carry a 5 gal container to replenish DEF when necessary (which doesn't have to be at a truck stop) or inconvenient to either pull the rig in the opposite direction of the tanks or fill from the adjacent lane. Both of the latter two require the station to have little or no traffic and/or multiple pumps and plenty of room to navigate against the grain of traffic. When this is not possible I refill my 5 portable container when I refuel.

So far it hasn't been a major problem. In fact, sharing a pump from the adjacent lane has led to some interesting conversations with truckers and other MH owners!

MVP--I think you hit the nail on the head re proximity with the exhaust.

Thankfully Tiffin repositioned the DEF tank to the drivers side this year on the RED and Phaeton

I don't understand. At UPS our new KW Kentworth twin screw tractor has the DEF on the passenger side.

Do you have diesel and DEF pumps at the UPS facility? If so it doesn't matter.
