I guess I am surprise that this question was posted based on all of the reasonable responses

I agree, I would not want them together for all of the reasons mentioned

gray and black water tanks are nothing more than mobile septic tanks. I never miss the opportunity to dump them at a holding facility and i always keep the potable water topped off

118 - 80 = 38 extra fresh + refreshments.

Maybe that extra 38 gallons is for your dog to drink and for the outside shower? Your RV was designed for beach trips. It is a Sea Breeze.

The 118 gallons was in my 5er. My Breeze only has 67 fresh.

We can't dump grey at the dunes and when I asked a ranger if I would get a ticket for taking an outside shower and he said: Probably.

This is an easy one...you can easily dump while away from home.
But making fresh water is a harder thing to do and there are remote places where the owner might prefer to avoid a fresh water fill-up.

From the OP - Separating the Grey/Black may have become a thing of the past because of mandates that even the grey tank must be dumped into an approved dump, but not too long ago there was a day when (even on public lands) you could just dig a ditch and drain the grey at your campsite.

Many good observations about this but one that hasn't been mentioned is the fact that if they were both together you would have bad odors coming out of the sinks and showers. The reason you don't now is that the water level in the toilet is above the evacuation hole and this prevents the odors from migrating into the coach from the black tank. This barrier would not be there for the sinks and shower drains if there was only one tank.

? RV toilets don't have traps, they use valves. The S&Bs only have one septic tank! The sink traps would still work.
In some of the newer rigs the gray water from the bath sinks goes in the black tank. My 5er had 3 tanks, black, gray, and kit sink.
If all the gray went to the black, there would be less problems with pyramids. But I still like the B&G for dumping.

At the dunes, some guys sneak hoses under their rigs and build a damn so the rangers can't see from the street. I couldn't as I always park right next to the street. Got busted once, but no fines.
