Mid-door was one of the pluses when we decided on a gasser vs a DP. In addition to convenience, many campsites are more mid-door friendly. Also, some DP's we viewed didn't even have a small awning over the door. But evidently, we are in the minority of buyers.

I prefer mid entry but I see front entry as a better use of space. Really don't like the awning situation with front entry, if your lucky you get a little tiny one that sticks out in a weird way on the front of the coach or there is none at all. Mid entry usually under the large awning.

We have a mid door gas model and absolutely love our floorplan. A majority of the time, we and our guests (kids, nephews, nieces, etc) are going into the coach to either get something from the kitchen/frig or use the bathroom. The mid door entry is perfect for that since both the kitchen and bathroom are right in front of the door entry. The front door entry always makes me think of entering a public transit bus.

Of all the motor homes we have owned, my wife preferred the mid entry ones. If we would have had the option, we would have chosen a mid entry Allegro Bus. She liked her "Nest" area and her seat was in the same location from the front as mine instead of being back further. We looked at a Newell, but it was above our pay grade.

I suspect it's a function of where the steer wheels are relative to the front of the rig. In a front-engine rig, the steer wheels are very close to the front end, so the door is back a ways.

If it's a bus-type layout, you get a passenger entry door where transit coaches have theirs.

...and I think your question more descriptively should have been worded, "why do most diesel pusher motorhomes have a front door instead of a mid-door" as most Class A gas (with the possible exception of a gas-engined pusher) have mid-entries out of necessity, right?

Have a look at thes 2015 dp mid entrance 33.3 & 35.1 models... this is a mid entry price level dp !

Yep!! Those 4 extra steps are a bear all the way to the kitchen area after inside the front door. Especially if I have to make 2 trips.
That could make 12 total extra steps just for grocery's every week.

That will be over 208 plus extra steps a year. Those won't add very much to my mile walk every day by my Smart Phone.
