This weekend I was on I-73 S in NC in my car when a beautiful MH towing a full size pickup passed me doing about 75 MPH. Speed limit was 65, raining roads full of water, and lots of traffic. No way he could have stopped in an emergency. Just wondering why speed in conditions like that? Would not put everyone else on the road in danger that way. Thoughts?

Maybe he wanted to get home before he ran out of fuel...

or, maybe all MH drivers do not use good judgement.

But I am sure if you ever caught up with him and talked to him, you would find out he had over a gazillion miles experience without an incident! He would go on to tell you that he had driving skills and reflexes that go far beyond those of mortal men (could possibly leap tall buildings in a single bound!)

And the true story;

He was on his way home (assuming it was a him, ladies are tending to drive faster now days as well). His wife was planning to get pregnant that night and he wanted to be there when it happened!!

Many do not believe it will happen to them. Now days vehicles drive much better so they think they are in control. Too bad that when they have an accident most of the time they also affect those immediately around them.

While the speed may have been higher than safe, I have to also chime in that driving considerably slower than the speed limit is also unsafe. Best to go with the flow, not creating a situation making others pass (you going too slow), or excessive passing by yourself of others (you going too fast).

Not defending the guy's actions doing 75 in a 65 zone, while raining and high traffic.

I believe the speed "limit" is only a "guideline". I see law enforcement exceeding/ignoring these "guidelines" all the time (speed, signals, etc.) which is the basis for this belief. The general public is just repeating the example being provided. That said, spending a bit of time in another's shoes is always a good thing. I can imagine a variety of very negative and sad calls from loved ones that may encourage (necessitate???) an expedited trip.

OK so rain is a factor but my question is why was he going over the speed limit for any reason? One more reason we try to stay off the interstate. While we do of course encounter unsafe drivers everywhere, we find less on secondary
I try my darndest to stay at 60 on the interstate.

He probably had 500-600 HP and when he bought the MH was told that it wasn't good to run the engine less than 2000 RPM.
