Window covering Ideas????

our coach has the pleated day night shades...they are showing their age and I want a new look.....

thought about the (brand deleted)pull downshades.... but just can't seem to warm up to the projector movie screens on all the windows

what else ??? I might go with the movie screens with a shear curtain in front.

I thought I did a thread here about this but can't find it???

The older Beavers had some interesting shade, but they seems a but like a funeral parlor. But those type of shades might be of interest. Look at some in the early 2000's.

My wife and I made these shades...cloth covered roller shades.

i was thinking about gluing fabric to the store bought shades
but would like to known more about how you did yours

We found the material at Hobby Lobby. Diane zigged zagged edges of the material on her machine, then we wrapped them behind the shade about an inch except along the bottom of the shades where we wanted to cover the stick pocket. We attached the fabric to the shades using Elmers spray on Craft Bond, and we glued the wrap around edges to the shade with Beacons fast drying Fabric Tac, or 3 in 1. The both worked about the same. I used universal mounting hardware from Lowes for the shades, the bracket can mount at either end of the shade, they are heavier and don't have an open slot that might allow the shade to come down when going down the road. Depending on how long the shade is, it might not roll up all the way to the top due to the fact the fabrick makes the shade a bit large in diameter and there is not always enough room inside the valance for it, but we don't mind because we don't want to roll them all the way up during the day anyway. Some of the larger windows took a bit of adding a bit sewing material to make the piece a bit wider. We measured the width of the inside of the valance minus an inch to have room for the shade.

The fabric we used is a bit heavy some people use lighter quilt fabric..but we loved the cloth that we found so we don't mind the weight. We made the sewn on pulls from clip on curtain rings and a name tag that you glue a safety pin on the back of it...

I left one important thing out...we made our shades for eleven windows and the total cost was about 300 bucks.

My shades are still good but I worry that the ones on my exit windows would be in the way in case of fire. They are not the easiest things to pull up and down.

Another idea is 1" faux wood venetian blinds. Similar to the 2" & 2 1/2" blinds but small enough to fit inside most valances. And the faux wood is a lot tougher than the vinyl or aluminum blinds. Have em in my mh and have a climbing cat. Still look as good as when I put em up about 3 yrs ago.

I had some but my computer crashed. Their website has some pictures.

The really nice thing about them is that you can pull them down with just your finger and thumb. To roll them up all you do is pull down on them and then release them and they roll up automatically. Each window now has 2 shades, the day shade you can see out but people can't see in and the night shade that cuts off all views.

I'm working with MCD ...they sent me some fabric samples...should get them Monday...guess I'm looking for more of a pleated look...

so far I came up with 2 rods.. one with shear and one with blackout for the bedroom...I'm gonna try to sew pleats so we will see how it turns out...

not a fan of the pull down shade look...but that might be the best... bought some flat curtain panels and went to work on them...had to cut and sew them to size...lol gonna have a lot of labor in this project....hope it works
