Windshield oxidation?

Any tips for removing this hard to scrape white film from the windshield? I was able to scrape a small area clean but it was NOT easy.

Thanks in advance

Jeff

What is that? Don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

Did it grow there while you weren't looking? Is it inside or outside? Does vinegar have any effect?

Yeah! Looks like frost to me. Start the engine and turn on the a/c. Waiting for the flames.

It's the outside bottom edge of my windshield.

The best thing I've ever found for cleaning windshields is 0000 steel wool. There's a RV video out there somewhere that describes this. You can get the steel wool at Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc.

Try some Barkeepers Friend - the powder type. Make a thick paste and put it on the window let it sit for awhile, then scrub off with a stiff brush. I don't know what that stuff on your windshield is, but it looks like some kind of mineral deposit. If it is, the BKF should do something to it.

Look for a product called Nothin's Better Water Stain Remover. I bought mine at an Automotive Paint Supply. It took the hard water stains off of my RV windows and shower door.

Did you park down-wind of a mister or sprinkler system?

It was there when I bought it from the PO.

Well, I think you're going to have to identify it somehow. Take a scraping, if possible. Then try various chemicals to try to dissolve it.

On the outside? Wow. Never seen anything like it. Maybe it's alien. Like from outer space.

Did you try anything other then scraping so far? Like vinegar? Or RemovesIt? Or that stuff that smells like oranges?

The thing that's confusing is that it's so perfect, and so wide. Almost like it's the residue from a sticky backed sheet of windshield sunscreen that was put on to lessen sun glance off the dashboard.

That's why I'm thinking mister, sprinkler, or even over-spray from a paint job or shop.

It also does a great job on renewing the rubber surface on the wiper blades. Get some extra mileage on those blades.

Log on to RV Geek, there is a good video that describes how to clean glass with 4000 steel wool, Rain-X and a little work on your part.

Hi,
I think it's the oxidation from the roof. I had the same issue but was very lite. Took little dawn diluted in water and scrubbed with brush came off. Then finished it with 309 on the windshield rubber. Hope that helps
