Question Winnebago, Newmar, or Tiffin?

Looking to full time in 2-3 three years. My budget will be about $40K or less for an older diesel pusher. I like Winnebago, Newmar, and Tiffin because of their reputations and the fact that they have not been absorbed by some other company in the past 20 years or so. I would like opinions and shared experiences that may inform my choices. My priorities will be:
1. Mechanical reliability.
2. Durability of both the interior and exterior. My son is rough on things.
3. Value. I like the best buy.

I like Newmars, I've had two Dutch Stars and probably should have gotten another one.

Newmars are great coaches...that's what I'd have if I did not have an AC. Older ACs are also fine coaches, I would not rule them out.

Newmar best choice of those three. That said, there are other high end builders that you should also consider.

Think I would stick to a pull trailer with that budget if being realistic. If one only has 40000$ how could one afford any major repair unless you are not planning to drive it.

Absolutely spot on advice. Hope the OP considers this part of the equation.

Been pre-approved for more. I choose $40K because I am looking to minimize depreciation costs. RVs are rolling stocks that cost like real estate, but depreciate like a car. Yes, buying an older RV might mean costly repairs and upgrades, but $40K plus $20K = $60K RV with new and/or upgraded components. I am not expecting a turn-key, painless experience at $40K.

Just remember like cars to rebuild cost 10x more in parts than a new car assembled. A new 300000 coach would cost 3 mil to rebuild in parts. Tires transm and engine alone could be more than your budget and reserve fund.

Well, it's definitely a gamble, which is another reason I am limiting my budget. BTW- with a typical one year warranty and no Lemon-Law protection, one could end up royally tattooed with a nearly-new, giant brick in one's driveway. I guess we are all gamblers, it's simply a matter of how much we can afford to lose.

Most posters have their rig listed in their signature . . . take a look as you peruse the forums and note how many "older" rigs are in use . . . there are HUNDREDS of them. Look in the Owner forums and see how many over 10 year old rigs are running just fine. We are also looking and were initially focused on a "recent" 2-4 year old rig, but I've seen enough evidence to prove to me that an older unit, that was considered a "quality" unit in its day is a relatively low risk for needing MAJOR engine/chassis repairs. You DO need to pay close attention though to looking for water damage.
