We know caulking the roofs of Winnys n Itasca's is very important. We were hit by a mimi twister & had the driverside roof lift out of the channel or rain gutter if you prefer. Very fortunate, no tears, just popped the roof back into the channel & held it in place with Gorilla tape until a proper caulk job could be done. I have heard Winnebago now has a fiberglass fitting to place over the area. Anyone with detailed info? I have called Winnebago, however, no reply to date. Thanks for any & all comments.

Hi,

When I had my 2004 Adventurer I used eternabond tape and rain it from front to rear just above the rain gutter.

The eternabond tape is white and is 2" wide plus once down it won't come up. You have to make sure it is where you want it before pressing down.

I even did the front and rear caps with it and when I sold the coach it was still in tact.

Thanks Tom, funny you went with EternalBond, exactly what I used. I even put it around all the vents, anything that was on the roof that I could put the eternal bond on. Great, great product.

We have a 2005 40ft Itasca Horizon and during a severe wind storm in Mojave, CA we had 20 feet on the drivers side come out of the channel and lift up about 10", We were able to get it to go back in & used duck tape to seal it, & like yours no tears. Duck tape worked better than sealant as we were 7 hours from home driving freeways.

Good luck in getting Winnebago to do anything, unless your under the 1yr warranty. We had an extended warranty, plus still had the Winnebago 10 year roof warranty in place, but unless you have had all the roof sealing done at a Winnebago dealer so everything shows on their computer they will even talk to you. We could show proof we had sealant done on our roof many times but not at a dealer (as they are 2 1/2 & 3 hrs from us) & they would not even listen. The Winnebago dealer we took it to told us to try our regular motorhome insurance company as they cover wind damage. The insurance company called Winnebago and was told we didn't seal the roof properly, but when I faxed the work orders we had done at a local shop the insurance company did not understand why Winnebago would stand behind their LIMITED ROOF WARRANTY. Our coach was only 4 yrs old at the time.

To answer your question--- yes they have a fiberglass roof repair that starts in the middle of the coach and comes over the side into the channels-that is how they fixed ours and our insurance covered all but our deductible. You still have to seal the channels like you did before.

About three months ago, to the day, at the factory I had Winnebago reattach the sidewall to roof side rails which were pulling loose. They added additional screws to the rails on both sides, cleaned and caulked both rails and made it look like it was originally. Nothing was mentioned about a new/special or upgraded fiberglass fitting. I'm sure they would have mentioned it if it were applicable to my coach - $$$$.
