winter camping

I will be travelling south for the first time. My 2 first nights will be overnight in a camping. My rig is winterized and i have no interest in using water for the 2 first nights. My question is more about opening the slide outs. Can i safely open the slide outs for one night? Will i have problem closing them in cold wheather?
Will i have condensation in the coach coming from the slide outs after i close them?
I am probably being over cautious but better be safe than sorry.

I have a Class A diesel, 42 feet.

Thanks to everyone

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

The only problem might be it there is freezing rain where you overnight! Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I think it's a personal preference thing. We travel every year about this time (cold and snowy) and so we don't open the slides the first two days-which are the days when it's traditionally quite cold out. We've done it that way with fifth wheels and now the motorhome. We're lucky in that we can do nearly everything in our coach with the slides closed. That way it is way less square footage to keep warm. The other reason is that on one trip traveling South we put them out in Pocatello on a lovely, above freezing evening at the rv park. Woke up to five inches of heavy snow and much less than below freezing. Bringing in the slides, and dealing with the snow and frost on top wasn't something I'd like to get in the habit of, so particularly if there is a chance of a frost or snow we leave them in. We've never had a problem with the moisture, but then again we always leave a window or vent very slightly open overnight. Just the way we do it as a personal preference.

You were fortunate the slides came in. Coming south a week ago we ran into temperatures below 10 deg and couldn't open the slides as the system was somehow frozen up. Luckily the slides weren't frozen open.

Welcome to irv2,
This link will give you information on traveling in the winterize link.
When ever I traveled in winter months it was no different than traveling during the summer always in comfort, thats with the heat on for your comfort and your tanks below.
With your slides in winter you need to know what the weather overnight will be and if snow keep your slides in so your not delayed in morning to get moving.
Not many CG's open in winter and we stayed overnights in Cracker Barrel Restaurants having supper and breakfast until the next stop at a CB.
Enjoy your trip and safe travels.
