I hear that. My wife and I discuss moving to SD and we live in San Diego -- where the weather, quite literally, really is perfect.

Winters sucks in South Dakota, unless you live in Rapid City!! Punch up Aberdeen and punch up Rapid City for weather conditions. Aberdeen is so so much colder that you won't believe that those two towns are in the same State!! Weather is so mild in Rapid City during the winter. As I mentioned before, when it snows it's generally gone in a few days. They don't have days and days of temps below freezing like the rest of South Dakota has.

I've never seen it colder than 22 deg below zero in JAN. I used to drive through SD in the winter time.

Ogden may not be quite as cold as Rapid City. The number of really cold days are few. If it gets too cold a quick run down to St George or Mesquite for a few days of golf would be adequate to get past the cold spell.

Otherwise you are close to some of the best skiing in the world IMO and it would definitely be worth the effort.
