Wood Flooring

We have a 40' Holiday Rambler with 2 slides. Now we have carpet on the floor around the ceramic tile. My question is can we have a wood floor installed and would it squeak when traveling down the road. The carpet is discoloring and we keep the unit in a covered area so no sun gets to it at all. It is a 2002 model. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Harry,
I've been wanting to do the same thing to my coach, without success. Things to consider are:
  1. real wood or laminate
  2. slide rollers
  3. floating floor or glued to the sub floor
My stumbling blocks are #s 1 and 2. Nobody that knows what they are doing will touch my coach with this job. Newmar put rollers on my slides that are for carpet. I am told, putting wood down will require changing the rollers and how they are mounted. I've tried throwing $s at these companies, but until I get Newmar to complete the roller/arm change nobody will take the job.

Next is real or laminate. It may be a personality defect, but I have never found a laminate that I like the feel of (on bare feet). Real wood is softer than laminate and the after market companies don't like to deal with it. Newmar will not install real wood, and that's their final answer.

Some friends had a synthetic "wood" floor put in the 2004 HR Endeavor with three slides. The material is sort of a wood grain linoleum (looks quite nice too) and the slide rollers haven't marked it a bit.

Try this guy for your flooring needs. He is an RVers and has many happy customers. He travels at least part of the year, so he may be able to come to you, or you can visit him in Texas.
