WoodPecker Damage- Can't Believe It!

Come home from work today and my wife says you can't believe what happened to the motorhome. (Like I don't have enough things to fix). She heard a knocking noise outside and found a woodpecker tearing up the windshield gasket on the MH. She scared it away but not before it took out at least 6 pea to marble size chunks. Will try some black gasket maker to fill in the voids. What could be next?

We have had crows peck at the caulking. They are relentless!

DW's cousin & husband , built a home with cedar siding in an area with woodpeckers , within a year it looked like .... .
Anyhow on advice from neighbors they hung up wind chimes/ w big reflecting panels, on all 4 corners of the house, and woody and friends kept their distance.

The next best fix beside total gasket replacement would be to use modern windshield Urethane Adhesive to fill the holes. This is REALLY strong stuff.

A few years back we built a new house and at the same time I had my shop put up. The house was finished but I was dragging my feet on siding the shop. One Saturday morning we were awoke to a hammering sound coming from my shop. Yup a woodpecker had pounded a hole on the plywood. I chased him off and he would just come back later and start all over again. I wound up with several holes in my shop until we put the tar paper on before siding. After that we never seen him again.

We used to belong to an RV club in OR. Had their own 11 acre "park" and installed a sound system to notify people what was going on. A woodpecker decided that one of the megaphones was something to "work on". Nothing like a 6 am wake up call by the woodpecker on the steel megaphone!

About 10 years ago Red Wing Blackbirds decided windshield wiper rubber was a good thing to have in the greater Memphis area. They would strip it right off the blade and take it away, lasted about a year then gave it up.

I'm not sure if this is apropos, but many moons ago i learned not to wash the RV with any type of citrus based/smell soap. The feather friends will try to get through to the fruit. Just sayin'!

We had a woodpecker that liked to hammer on the gutter on the corner of our bed room at the early hours. Not a problem during the week, but on weekends, he needed to find another place to hammer.

We had buzzards eat a chunk of wave guide for out microwave that supported a remote site, dryer had a boat load of hours and the signal was crap.

Darn things were protected at that site, creativly repaired...

For your gasket you can get true silicoln RTV at Home Depot in black.

Be sure to ask for RTV (room temp vulcanize) the stuff smells like vinegar when curing.

It water cleanup it is WRONG STUFF.

The day after I spent $150 and three hours of my time installing a new gasket around my bedroom slide I found the mess below. Raccoon footprints all over the top of the slide.

The bird says to the critter "I don't know what these humans get out of RVing, it kind of leaves me with a rubbery taste in my mouth".
