workhorse exhaust problems

First trip with a newly acquired Itasca 38J with 8.1 L. Vortec. Have had the "donut" gasket ( manifold to exhaust ) replaced twice and finally ordered from Workhorse direct. Seemed better at first, but now very noisy again. This is after 2000miles and is probably ready to blow again.
Wondering if anybody has had the same issues and how it was resolved.
Thanks

Sounds like a warped exhaust manifold or a warped head. Get a machine shop to check them.

workhorse exhaust problems

If it is in fact the donut gasket and not the manifold (a known issue), there is a recommended fix from Brazels where a pipe is welded between the two exhaust pipes to stabilize them. I can take a photo of mine if the rain ever stops.

Are you sure that is the source of the leak? Although, if replacement of the donut quieted it down for a while maybe the manifold is OK.

thanks for your suggestion. If not too much trouble a picture would be great. Thanks again, Gerry

IMHO can the the stock manifolds and install good quality headers. No more warping and you gain some HP and torque. I would buy stainless steel an have the pipes wrapped to mitigate heat in the engine compartment.

Gerry,

Still sitting in rain (upper NY) so haven't been able to get the photo.

I'm not sure why the donut from Workhorse isn't working, unless there is another problem somewhere.

That being said, I had good success replacing the original donut on the motorhome we used to have on a W24 chassis with the one recommended on Oemy's website from Car Quest. It is P/N F31731. They had to order it, but it only took a day to come in and it only cost a few bucks. It may be worth a try.
