Would a Workhorse chassis stop you from purchasing
We are thinking about a class a and many comments you hear at campgrounds
are to stay away from a Workhorse Chassis. Would a Workhorse Chassis stop you from purchasing a nice one owner well maintained Class A with a fiberglass roof.

I've always heard the workhorse chassis was better. Never had one though.

Bought mine 2.5 years and 24,000 mikes ago. I would not even think about trading it at this point. I have never had a problem with getting it serviced or with parts. I live the 8.1 and Allison combo. I say jump on it.

We bought our Airstream on the Workhorse chasis two years ago from the original owner. All addition and service records came with it. No problems. Workhorse does have some issues but more positives that offset. Seems like identified issues are serviceable. Would buy it again without a second thought.

You must have been talking to a Ford owner.
The only thing that kept me from purchasing a 2005, Tiffin 37' coach on a Workhorse chassis ( W-22 ) was the lack of usable Cargo Carrying Capacity, the CCC was only 940 lbs. but that's not a Workhorse problem.
Tiffin should have known better and built the RV on a heavier chassis, or figured a way to do a lighter build.
JMHO: Gas, Class A's should have a minimum of 2500 lbs. CCC.
Pushers , 3,000+, anything less , you can't use the cargo space.
EDIT: Could be the person's reasoning was the fact that Workhorse was shut down , for a while , and they worried about lack of support.

I don't know why anyone would tell you to stay away from a Workhorse chassis. People freak when they here recall notices. Brakes, instrument cluster. PLEASE! These were all things that were taken care of. Our coach now is on the W22 platform and it's GREAT. The 8.1 coupled with the Allison trans is something hard to beat. The ride and handling is excellent and I'm talking about a bone stock chassis. NO modifications at all. If you know how to load them they handle just fine. If it were me and I had to do it all over again, no question in my mind would keep me from buying a unit on the Workhorse. Besides now that they're coming back into the market stream it should make you feel even better about getting one. Trust me I doubt you would be disappointed. I don't like brow bashing the competitor but we had the F53 on our last coach. No comparison. JMHO

I've owned both chassis and here is my take. Hope I don't get flamed! The older workhorse chassis that have the AutoBrake seem to be a huge headache. Owned a 98 Pace Arrow (97 chassis) and had nothing but problems with the AutoBrake. I know that people have found ways to work with them, and even understand them but I found the constant tinkering with that system to be such a drag on the experience. I currently own a 07 F53 chassis and I love it. Have had no issues so far. I'm not sure about the newer workhorse chassis's and what they ever did with their emergency brakes, but I've heard really good things about the 8.1/Allison combo, and I wouldn't walk away from that chassis, as long as it didn't have an AutoBrake system.

Fwiw Workhorse has reformed as a company again and has plans for some new chassis in the near future. There is a post in the Chassis forums under Workhorse with a link to the story.

Its what I looked for and bought when I was looking to buy. Mine is a W-24. I know there was a problem with brakes on the W-22 that led to a recall, but the W-24 was not involved. The 8.1/Allison is a very strong and desirable combination imho. From what I understand, the Ford V10 does the job, but it just doesn't have the torque the 8.1 does. There's no substitute for cubic inches.

Clarification on the above quote is needed. Be sure to consider who is the source of these many comments.
I started fulltiming about the era Workhorse started production. Over the years I have not heard comments at campgrounds saying to stay away from Workhorse. Note - My current home sits atop a Workhorse chassis.

No flame, but you don't have your facts correct. Autobrake was used on GM / Chevrolet P-series chassis, and some built by workhorse with leftover parts when they purchased the GM chassis business. The workhorse designed chassis never had the autobrake system.
The best way to differentiate chassis is that P-series have independent front suspension, and Workhorse W-series have solid front axles.
