What would be the point of lending a class A RV that costs as much as a house and is full of idiot prone pitfalls to someone?

I would NOT lend mine out to ANY one... including family. Family would feel like they didn't have to pay for anything that broke!!

I can see the excuses:

It was defective.. so not my fault.
It was old.. so not my fault.
You didn't explain it.. so not my fault.
I don't remember you saying it.. so not my fault.
I did what you said.. so not my fault.
I'm your son/daughter and I'm stupid.. so not my fault.
I'm your son/daughter and you know I never listen to you..
so not my fault.

The same reasons we buy them, to get enjoyment from them and I feel I would like to share that enjoyment with my kids (all in their 30's) and their families and a few of my friends who I trust and have taken the time to learn how to safely use the rig. It makes me feel good when I can help them have a very enjoyable experience. I actually feel upset when the rig sits in storage when I cannot use it. These are just material possessions which can be fixed or replaced if something happens.

I am sorry you feel your kids or good friends would take advantage of your generosity. I do not feel my kids or good friends would do that.

Rick
It's "polarized" because it is a "binary" YES/NO question. The answer to the original post is either YES or NO....

The answers one receives is directly tied to the way the question is phrased....
A better way to ask the question might have been,
"Under what conditions would you consider loaning your RV to a Family member or a close friend?"

Image if you were to lend you rig out for a month or two to people like Happycarz or Diplomat Don. All the stuff that you thought about doing for the past 5 years would have been fixed and then some.

Why they would do this? They just can't help themselves I think . Bless their cotton socks.

I wont lend our rig to family either and I don't need anyone to feel sorry for me or make any comments about my family.

I admire your abundant faith in human nature. The real problem is not that they would purposely harm anything that you would lend, but their standards might not be the same as yours. What they see as a small cut in the counter top from cutting a sandwich might be something that you might not find acceptable. To say that your children and friends have the same standards as you is unrealistic.
To wit, I feel I am a tidy person although not quite up to my wifes standards. My wife is a perfectionist, but allows me to drive the motorhome, bless her pea pickin heart.

Chuck fortunately my standards are not that high. I love my RV but I am not afraid to use it and some time abuse it a little if the carpets get dirty I do not get upset they can be cleaned. With 6 young grandchildren I am always getting something knocked over or dirty. Additionally I have an old Porsche that I often pull behind the RV and take to a variety of racing events and driver education where you can drive it on the track and actually race. I often bring my sons and sometimes one good friend and we all get to take hot laps around the track. I will tell you the sons and friends I let drive my car are not near as aggressive driving the car as I am, they baby the thing where I will drive the heck out of it. I will often get this up to 140mph or more where the sons or friend usually wont go over 120. Here is a pic of the Porsche. So not only do I lend out my RV I lend out my sports/race car. I guess I am an idiot.

If so, you're my kind of idiot Tom
I like the way you think... but I'd have to think awhile on loaning out my sportscar.

Not an idiot Tom, you sound like a great guy with a great family that enjoys each others company. Not too many people can say that. I admire you. You are truly blessed.
It sounds like you guys are having lots of fun.

PS Forget my hot air rant !
