How many miles, typically, before a diesel engine oil change would be due, if going by mileage rather than time?
|
My manuals say Engine: 15K or annual - Generator: 150 hrs or annual

I just had a complete "M1" on my Freightliner done at Pacific Power Products, a Freightliner Service, for a total of $710. They are located in Coburg, OR.

The thread title says "yearly" and not many people have their transmission serviced annually.
I thought the OP was just getting an oil and fuel filter service on the engine and generator based on the title. If that had been the case, then yes, he was hosed.

A diesel engine is likely to last longer than the coach it is under, but certainly 300,000 miles would not be unusual depending upon how often it is used (more often is better). The larger the diesel the longer it tends to last. The over-the-road busses easily go 1,000,000 mile on an engine. We installed a Datastorm antenna on Willie Nelson's tour bus. The bus was a 1996 and we install the antenna in 2002. They had over 800,000 miles on the coach/engine.

...sorry guys, i tried to edit and 'add' about the transmission that got serviced too in the original thread but I don't know how to do it.
BTW..., allison recommends minimum 'annual' service for my particular unit.
but my original post is a bit mis leading... I appologize.

I pay around $550 annually for the engine/genset service. I have the long-life trans fluid in the Allison so I probably won't ever change that in the life of my MH. Also, have the long-life coolant so it won't ever be changed.

Did he pay the sales tax
Sorry had to do say it.
We paid $180 for just an oil change and filter for a Cummins ISC, 26 quarts of oil. So no, all of the work done does not sound that outrageous.

My 2007 vintage Cummins/Allison combo have the transfluid with a 150,000 mile service interval and the coolant is in the same range. At my current 8,000 miles a year (or so), I'll never get to the point of changing them.

Oxymoron? Putting 2007 and vintage into the same phrase, or is vintage a coach model?

Not an oxymoron, just the diffference between a noun and an adjective.
vin·tage (v n t j)
n. 1. The yield of wine or grapes from a vineyard or district during one season.
2. Wine, usually of high quality, identified as to year and vineyard or district of origin.
3. The year or place in which a wine is bottled.
4. a. The harvesting of a grape crop.
b. The initial stages of winemaking.
5. Informal a. A group or collection of people or things sharing certain characteristics.
b. A year or period of origin: a car of 1942 vintage.
c. Length of existence; age.
adj. 1. Of or relating to a vintage.
2. Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic.
3. Old or outmoded.
4. a. Of the best: played songs that were vintage Cole Porter.
b. Of the most distinctive: "Fatalism has coexisted with vintage American overconfidence" (Thomas Oliphant).

I think Oxymoron is correct, but not sure about the "Oxy" part. On most fluids it is mileage or "time".
