Thanks for the replies, everybody. The RTA tax in Washington is for brand new vehicles, and the calculator is for renewal of tabs within six months of expiration which doesn't apply to my rig. I've looked all over the site and will just have to go to a licensing center to try to get an estimate, but it looks like it will be manageable.

NC is one of the states that collects city and county property taxes as part of the license renewal fee.

In response to CivDiv99's question, I'm just factoring in the costs of buying a rig.

Sounds like a lot of apples to oranges comparisons have been posted. I only have experience with Iowa and Arkansas. In Arkansas I pay about $27 for registration.
In Iowa, when I lived there, everyone considered registration much higher because the county just gave you one figure you had to pay which included per. property tax and registration and you didn't get any breakdown on costs.
In Arkansas you can't get the $27 registration until you can prove you have purchased insurance, also you can't get the $27 registration until you can prove you have paid the per. property tax which is at a different office. Also you have to have proof of assessment of per. property items from the assessors office. Once you've collected these three items, then you can get the $27 registration, so it's not quite so cheap as it sounds when I say our registration is about $27 in Arkansas.

Well, he asked specifically about WA and he got that scoop I think.

Not sure about the add ins on other states, but ultimately this is discussion venue, so I find it interesting in any case.
