I want to put steering tires on my 96 Vectra diesel before we leave town next week and every tire shop is having trouble finding me a set. I was looking for some Yokahama RY103 but it seems a huge back order has left me with only one other choice.

Can someone tell me if the 22.5 GY661 is a decent steering tire? The quote is $425 each mounted plus tax.

Well, it turns out those two tires are already 7 months old. I don't know if I want to buy new tires that are pre-aged.

Have you looked at Hankook AH12's or AH11's, most everyone who has them likes them, that is what I am going to use when I replace my Goodyear's. They have a great price point.

Another good tire to look at is the Toyo, don't know the model info. but read good things about those as well.

I would buy them right now. But, nobody seems to have tires in the Indianapolis region for under $475 per tire...and I have limited options on those.

I have G661 tired on the MH. Purchased them about a year ago and have several thousand miles on them with out any complaints. Price was good and steered me away from Michelin after cracking side walls on my car tires. Did look at Michelin as I have always used them but not this time.

I just put the G661 hsa on my coach very happy with them. Replace the Michelins due to cracking. They were 450 each.

another option is sumitomo. heard a lot of good comments in quality and price, but i have not used them yet.
i have bfgoodrich (dually 8 years) and bridgestone (steer 2 years) now. either is good. i am in search of good tires too.

I am going to take a trip this week and then see what I can find in the "off market" brands like Double Coin etc.. I have heard good things about some of these and the corner car service /tire shop said that while he could not mount them, he had several tires in the $200-225 range. After doing some web research I cannot find a strong argument against some of these brands.

Vectraguy, I agree that the Chinese tire manufacturers (Double Coin, Samson, etc.) are all putting out better products nowadays and I'm tempted to take a look at them the next time around when I need tires.

I'm sure we'll hear about those who refuse to buy them because they feel that they're not as safe ...or as one guy keeps saying, he won't buy other inferior Chinese products so why buy tires from a communist China? blah, blah, blah.

For me, I'm always looking for the best value. Yes, I cringe to see the money I spend on a product ultimately going to China. Would I prefer to buy a Good Year tire that is made in north America (with some Good Year tires even being made in China)? Sure. But if I can find an equally performing product for half the price, I actually would consider them.
