Here in NW Arkansas we have a big motorcycle rally each year. A couple years ago there was a motorhome that made it to an exit ramp before the whole center section burned out. Didn't see the fire, it just hadn't been towed yet when I went by.

Makes you wonder why RV manufacturers fit escape windows that are top hinged and so heavy that getting out is problematic for most people. Add a $20 gas strut to hold the window open once it is unlatched and the game changes considerably.

BTW Have you tried to open your escape hatches recently - or ever?

If not, be prepared for a nasty surprise. I've tried opening four hatches on 4 RVs - all the same brand - and ALL had the same fatal problem.

Just be careful when you test them... I've heard some don't have complete hinges at the top and can fall to the ground once you start to open them. That solves the problem you state, but can be a nasty surprise if all you're doing is testing them.
