2012 Airstream Interstate - Roof Cargo Rack

Hello Everyone,

We're new owners of a 2012 Airstream Interstate. We just got it and have only had 1 trip in it, but we can tell already that we are going to love it.

What have others done in terms of roof cargo? I can get a trailer hitch for our bikes, but haven't found a way to secure the kayaks yet (other than putting them in thru the back door). Has anyone mounted a rack system on the roof? I don't believe we have any rails up there (the RV is in storage at the moment), and there are a few items up there to content with (AC, vent, awning, etc).

Any thoughts on a good solution?

Thanks,

The roof of most class B units is pretty populated as you mentioned with a/c, powered vents, tv antenna's, toilet vent, etc, etc. It seems to me that you are stuck with either carrying the "flotilla" inside the van or buy a small trailer to tow them on. IMHO a roof rack, I'm afraid, isn't going to be practical

Check out the Yakima gutterless racks for a design that would fit your rig. You may need to get the high mounts to clear your awning. The kayaks will be above the roof, and with a "v" shaped hull, should clear the air conditioning. If it is tight, you can move them out to where they are even with the width of your RV. Your only problem then, will be to load, and tie them down. Hopefully your roof is strong enough to allow you to walk on it.
