Awnings?

Do they sell awnings for class b/vans? My vehicle is technically not an RV, however, I am planning to do a lot of boondocking, and an awning would come in handy.

Yes. I'd check at any dealer that sells type B motor homes, or with the awning manufacturers.

Go to Carefee or A & E website and they should have answers to your questions. As stated you can check with RV dealers (any good service or parts dept.) will be able to answer your questions. My local dealer sells just TT & 5er's but the parts dept is great at answering questions on my MH. The manager has an 02 DP so he is very helpful.

I have a Born Free 23' Class B with a Dometic Horizon Awning. I'm not to impressed with it because it is so fragile. I went to Camping World to see if I could purchase a more robust awning. They told me that this was the only one available for a Class B. It seems that in order to get one of the more robust types the sides of the RV have to be perfectly verticle. The sides of my Born Free curve in at the bottom.

You may also want to look at Fiamma - theirs attach to pretty much any type of vehicle and seem to be fairly decent build quality. We almost got one ourselves, but went with a 10x10 EZ-Up freestanding with screen room in the end.

I've had to replace my Dometic Horizon Awning on my Sprinter 3 times. Is Fiamma a viable option? 22 ft Sprinter camper van, with a 13ft awning....

I would say yes. I've used mine regularly for 3 plus years now and no problems.

I have a Carefree of Colorado awning on my 2007 Interstate and it has proven to be just that, carefree.

Our 1988 Okanagan 17' Type B had one factory installed. Don't remember the brand now but since then we've only had A&E which is now Dometic. Never had one problem with any of them.

What happened that it needed replacement so soon?

The left arm of the Dometic Horizon popped 3 times. The entire awning was replaced twice. This time the right arm popped and out of warranty, the replacement arm is over $600. More than half the cost of the unit. Pretty aggravating..

Would the new Dometic 9500 Case Awning work.
They are $$$$ but should last a long time.
