Back door won't unlock

We have a 19 feet 1998 Ford Airstream. A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't open the back door from the outside. I went inside and unlocked it there. I probably should have tried to fix it then. Now, I can't open it from either the inside or outside. I noticed other postings that said I can fix the door mechanism with a Door Latch Cable Repair Kit. I'm willing to buy one and change it out, but I have to be able to open the door to be able to repair it. Does anyone know how to get theses doors open?

Remove as much of the rear panel (from the inside) to get to the mechanism.

I don't have room to remove the panel. It is blocked by the bathroom sink/shower.

Interesting enough I had the same experience with my 2006 Sprinter just last week. Nothing I did would unlock the backdoor. Then for some unknown reason about an hour later it decided to open. I've cleaned all the contacts and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have compassion for what you are going through.
