Collision Insurance?

I'm about to purchase a 12 y.o. Class B with only 27,500 miles and a clean CarFax record. Obviously, I need insurance, but I'm wondering just how worthwhile it is to purchase collision coverage along with the liability.

I should add I'll be paying the full price without financing. So buying collision coverage is entirely my own option.

Any comments or recommendations will be appreciated.

A lot depends on what's included; by the company; in collision , is fire separate insurance .
Fire is one form of insurance I wouldn't be without in an RV , but then I have declared value and collision.
If you are financing the purchase , will the finance company allow you to insure without collision ?
If you do have an at fault accident , is the amount you'd be out of pocket going to really hurt ?

EDIT : Sorry you said cash deal and I missed it.

It depends what the extra cost is for collision as well as the price you paid for the RV. When I bought my 77 class C for $2000 , I didn't bother with collision. I paid a lot more for my current RV and have collision on it , even though there is no financing on it.

Personally...

I would carry Comprehensive (fire theft wind hail glass etc) on anything I owned as I don't have much, if any, control over the possibility of using that coverage.

Collision on the other hand...you have some control over possible usage of this coverage. ie, safe driver = probably no crashes.

The question boils down to...Could you pile it into a tree causing total damage to your rig and feel OK with that?

Good Luck with your decision!

And don't forget the case, where no matter how careful you are, someone else (with no insurance) runs into you!

Being hit by an uninsured or under insured driver is a different coverage then collision coverage.
