Question is it the altitude change?

We live at 5300' elevation and are having propane issues in our Roadtrek when we travel. After a trip to 8500', we descended back to 5300' and the regulator failed. It was replaced under warranty. We then took a trip to 500' elevation. We turned on the propane to run the refrigerator on propane for the night and had a huge leak. Very stinky and the gas detector alarmed. Turned off the propane for the duration of the trip. Got home to 5300' and no longer have the leak. What is happening?

You've got something going on there. I've camped up as high as 9200' with no problems for many years.
