No Winnebago Travato spare tire

When we got our new 2016 Travato 59k, I was concerned by the lack of a spare tire and that a serious blowout would not be fixable with the aerosol tire repair kit Winnebago provides. Here is our solution that cost about $400 and gives us some peace of mind when traveling.

We just bought a 2026 59G and use a spare tire carrier that fits the 2 inch receiver.

Mount option

I struggled with this as well. If you happen to have the factory racks with bike mounts you can rig a spare tire mount there. I did this for about $25 total using common conduit hanging hardware and bolts. I posted some photos here, but if anyone wants any details or a parts list just let me know.

Spare tire

Lago,
Thank you for your reply. Looks like that is my best option. I will need to get a bike rack first.

The only negative of the receiver carrier is it needs to be removed whenever you have to open the rear doors.

Travato spare tire carrier

I was able to find one at Northern Tool.
It is a bike carrier that I modified to hold the spare tire.

I am in the middle of converting the stock bike rack on my Travato to a spare tire carrier. This picture will give you an idea were I am on this. When done I will post all the part numbers, etc. There are two cross members (only one strut in the photo) that basically keep the tire from falling off when accelerating or hitting a bump. The tire rests on what was the top of the bike rack as it is turned upside down.
