Too much condensation!

Hello,

We have a class B+ LTV that has a real condensation issue in the cab at night when we have an electric heater on in the bedroom space. We leave the vent open a couple inches in the bathroom to try to let the moist air out but it isn’t getting rid of the condensation.

I’ve looked at Amazon and they have a lot of dehumidifiers but it seems none have a really enthusiastic following. Our rig is narrow, 25 feet long and shouldn’t need a really powerful unit. Any recommend humifiers?.

We have been living in an older trailer (8' by 26') while building a house. We purchased a Frigidaire 50-Pint 2-Speed Dehumidifier

from Lowes' in 2016. It has made a wonderful difference. It does take up floor space - but we were quite desperate in the winter and this took care of the problem.

We just bought a GE 30 pint from Walmart last week for $160. So far we just run it at night while sleeping and we are getting 1/2 gallon of water removed each night.

I bought a 30 pint Danby dehumidifier from Amazon 3 years ago. It does a great job of keeping the humidity under control. I drilled a 5/16 hole in the floor and ran 1/4" cooper tubing for the drain. It has been running 24/7 for almost 3 years.

Try out a "low temperature dehumidifier" vs the normal ones.

The low temperature models remove moisture from the air even if it is only slightly above freezing (example that cold damp 35 - 45 F range).

They are not cheap but work.

I believe if you take a fan and blow air from the living area into the cab area a lot of the condensation will be circulated back into the living area. What you are getting is warm air from the back carrying the moisture to the front where it condenses.

I went through two under-rated / too-small dehumidifiers before I bought a small "compressor" style unit (the silica gel and pelitier based units were not adequate).

I made sure to get one that had a drain hose option. I put it up high enough that the hose would gravity-drain into a sink. It pulled a gallon of condensate every 24-36 hours and was filing up the grey tank faster than I liked. So I drilled a hole in the floor and dumped it under the coach, then got a longer hose and now dump it in the garden.

Welcome to iRV2.

You are getting condensation because of insufficient air exchange in a small space. To avoid it you need to be bringing in dryer outside air while at the same time exhausting the humid interior air. Unlike a sticks and bricks home most MHs are not built well enough to handle the task. For your needs a proper dehumidifier is your best choice.
