'07 XC Whirring sound under front of coach
I can't find a chassis layout to try to figure out what component under the front end of the coach whirrs when I turn on the key.. Sound comes from the area of the gen, likely not related because I hear the sound with gen off..
Hopefully, not a stupid question... LOL

I believe that what you are hearing is the vacuum pump used to operate the air duct diverters for dash heat and air conditioning.

Wow... thanks for quick responses! I'll try it with the AC off, would dash AC run even if the engine isn't? Geez I hate being ignorant about truck/rv chassis.. ran a fleet of mostly three axle trucks for a lot of years, pretty familiar with generic chassis stuff, not so with the wonderful things our coaches have on them!!!!

If it's the vacuum pump, and I believe that is what you're hearing, it doesn't matter if the AC is on or off. The pump runs whenever the ignition is turned on to build vacuum in a small tank then stops. That vacuum pressure is used to move vanes in the heater and AC ducts when you select dash vs. defrost, etc.

The AC cooling fan would not run with ignition off.... it will run with engine off and ignition on, however it cycles.....
Yeah, that vacuum pump makes some noise too.... more when it's about to die....and they do.
So ignition on engine off and a crawl under is a good idea. (build air first so that darn buzzer shuts up)

I believe you are totally correct, I noticed a couple days ago while moving the coach that when I turned off the heater/ac unit at the dash, the whirring stopped... hopefully, the whirring I do hear is the normal amount and not an indication of impending failure...
