Hi all... I'm posting this for my father who is currently stuck extending his stay in FL visiting me (not necessarily a bad thing) due to his RV overheating. He was able to get it to a service center and this is not the first time having the overheating issue. When it first occurred, the service center he had gone to flushed the coolant system and said their was dirt and grime in the system and then sent him on his way. This week's trip is the first trip since the flush. He was able to make it on this trip from NJ to FL perfectly fine with no overheating. He packed up this morning to continue on his trip and not 10 miles down the road, he overheated (temps reaching 232* and throwing codes D, E, G, H on the special LED readout). At first he thought that maybe he didn't give enough time to warm up the engine and so he sat on the side of the road for a while. As soon as he is stationary or at low speeds, the overheating is non-existent. He was able to make it to a service center, but now this place is telling him the same thing that they flushed the system and found dirt and grime.

I've found a few places where people have questioned the following to be the cause of the overheating problem:
  • thermostat
  • tightness of the water pump belt

Has anyone here experienced the same on this model and if so, what resolved your problem? If you haven't experienced this, but have a good mechanical sense, what else would you question to the service center?

I appreciate the read and thanks in advance for any responses.

Thanks,
Liz

Welcome Liz to the Newmar forum & irv2.
Some people with over heating have found that it was necessary to clean the outside of radiator because of dirt collecting in the fins of radiator.
I'm going to transfer your post down to the proper chassis forum but need to know what chassis you have Freightliner or Spartan?
The post will stay here also so Newmar members can help.
Moved to FL FORUM also.

Here is a thread to explain what I said about cleaning if its the case I would ask for money back, its best not to tell dealers what problems someone else found.

It sounds like the thermostat is stuck partly closed. That happens but it is not an expensive part and pretty easy to change. If you do it yourself be sure to clean all of the old gasket off both surfaces before reassembly.
