ABS Help

ABS light came on and stayed on during our return home trip. Is there anyway I can read the code myself to determine where the problem is? I was told once the code could be read using the Freightliner smartwheel. Also can the code be reset to see if it occurs again. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I haven't heard of the ABS fault creating failure codes but maybe someone with more knowledge of this will be along soon.

However, this is a common issue and has happened to me several times. Each time it was simply that the sensors had gotten dirty and I got away with just spraying a hose on them briefly and the fault went away. Using our search feature you can find a lot of discussion on this topic.

Best of luck

Rick

I agree with "Ricko", especially if you drove through some bad weather or muddy roads for any distance. Get a good spray nozzle and rinse down the back side of each wheel. If this doesn't cure it, take a moment to look for anything out of whack on the back of the wheels. Sensors can be knocked out of place.

If the problem gets corrected, the light should clear.

If you have the Freightliner dash that shows information in the window, you can scroll through to the diagnostic window and look for codes.

You could always go and buy your own code scanner, they don't cost that much, around $50.00
