Air Bag damage
Been doing some work on the coach and came across this gash in the front air back of my 2001 XC chassis.
do these bags have an inner bag, as this one is not leaking?
Has anyone changed a front bag on this Chassis?

They’re kinda built like a tire but I would not trust that one for very long.

That air spring definitely needs to be changed out. I wonder if the others are due too? Hopefully all the disconnect points are easy to get a wrench on to.

There is no inner air bag. I would replace this immediately.

I purchased two new front air bags from Freightliner. They cost 170.00 each. Changing Air bags generally is not difficult. They normally have a nut Stud and nut on the top and bottom and the air line connection on the top. However on the XC chassis you have to drop front I Beam cross member to get to the bottom Air Bag nut. I am going to try and tackle it. I may post some pictures

Doesn't look like cut at all. Looks like the end of a fabric band than didn't get fully cured when the bag was made. Looks like it's been that way since it wss originally manufactured.

MFG by Firestone.
They took 10.00 off paid 160 each. I will post some pictures and do a write up.

Thats a Holland air bag #. Firestones # is W01-358-9586 and is about $50 more. Just being nosy because im slow at work I was trying to figure out what makes it different than the $100 dollar range fairly standard bag.

I cannot explain the part number but that is what was on the invoice. I can confirm the bag says Firestone.

Frank, it can be done with the I-beam insitu (I know, I've done it).
What I used (for the bottom nut) was a combination spanner (I'm in the UK, so bear with me on the terminology), I think it's 38mm. I had to grind the thickness away on the ring end of the spanner (wrench?), heated the shaft a little to bend it a to the right angle and it just slid onto the nut. I admit it took a while as I could only turn it a few degrees at a time, but it worked fine and dandy (I did it in a campsite near Madrid of all places!). When I got home to the UK, I fitted another front bag on the opposite side using the same method.

In the U.S. we call that an open end - box end wrench.
Or just, combination wrench.

I replaced all 4 bags last week. I took to a friend with tools that I needed. It took 6 hrs. It took 4 hrs on the front bags. We got the nuts off ok but you have to drive the bolts through to take apart. Two were frozen.
Long story short. It's not a complex T job if you can get the parts sperated. The rear are easy.
I replaced raar bags also as I had on leaking. So now I am good to go
