I have a 2001 Tradewinds with a 330 CAT. While working on the exhaust system I noticed a lot of oil coming from the air compressor which looks like motor oil. Has anyone had this kind of problem? Does the air compressor need to be replaced? If so, has anyone done this themselves?

I believe this happened to a friend of mind on an identical coach a couple years ago. He was traveling and had a dealer do the work. I'm quite mechanical minded and have the tools. But would like to know what is involved.

Thanks.

Larry Sorenson.

Is there any oil in the air lines ?

The oil lubricating the air compressor is engine oil. Theoretically, an air compressor with bad rings could pump out the contents of the entire crank case. You will most likely need to replace the air compressor.

You will probably also need to service the air dryer.

I have a 99 Winnebago Untimate Freedom on a Frt Liner chassis with a Cat 3126B engine. Within the first 20,000 I had 2 compressors replaced, luckilly both under warrenty. After the last replacement, in Oklahoma City I noticed an oil drip on my parking spot at my house. Since it was still under warrenty, I brought it in to the local Freightliner dealer, who incidently had done all the regular maint. on the rig. Turns out when the compressor was replaced in Ok City about 1500 miles and 2 months earlier, they didn't get all 3 bolts properly tightened. Well after $500 and the local dealer covering the A__ of the Oklahoma City dealer, saying that their should really be a support breacket on the compressor. They removed the compressor, replaced the gasket and tightened all 3 bolts. It hasn't leaked since. No added support either. The reason I know that the top bolt wasn't tightened is because the rear bed has to be opened up to get access to the top side of the engine which is where the 3rd bolt is. The young Ok City claimed he could get at it without going in from above. WRONG. So check to be sure that you don't just have some loose bolts before spending a bunch of money.

You could maybe get by with doing the unloader valves. How many miles on the unit?

I have an 01 National Tradewinds with a Cat 3126B on a Freightliner chassis. We let it sit for about 3 months and after getting it up and running, we turned on the dash A/C. Long story short, it looks like the compressor blew a lot of oil and it gets HOT. Is this replaceable for a do-it-yourselfer or is it time to go see ATC Freightliner?

OP is talking about the AIR compressor, not the Air Conditioning compressor. If you are asking about A/C, you may want to re-post under a heading of A/C.

If it is A/C, most air conditioning shops can handle it - nothing special about the engine driven A/C on a MH.
