Has anyone with a freightliner chassis installed the Airforce One towed brake system? If so how do you like it and did you do the install yourself or have it done for you?

I have it on my FL chassis. I had it installed in Houston. I have no complaints with it. Once installed there are only two hook ups. The air line from the coach to the TOAD, and they are snap on, and the electrical umbilical cord, and they are push on. (Of course, you have to hook up the tow bar, as those two by themselves just cannot pull the toad!)

The LED provided to indicate when the TOAD brakes (AF1) are active is very bright. When my installed informed me of this he also asked where I would like the light installed. I had it installed on the wall, right of the gas peddle. When I want to check to see if it is acive I just have to glance down. When I say bright, I mean it is bright, so installation should be where it will not interfere and be distracting.

Good luck.

If you go to the motorhome forum under towing issues and toads you will find my thread on The Air Force One system. We had ours installed on our Freightliner XC at http://www.brazelsrv.com/ in Feb. I have been on the road with it now for about 2 months and just love it. Yesterday I had a couple of 7 and 10 % grades to go down and it really helped.

I bought one and installed it in a campground in Alaska when my Blue Ox Apollo went out for the third time. The next winter we traded up to the Allegro Bus so I switched it over to the Bus in the dealer's lot in Tucson. Great system that I wouldn't be without. We've got close to 20k miles on the system.

We replaced the great big bright brake light with a small red LED I bought in Radio Shack.

We had ours installed by Hitch Pro and Tow in Eugene Oregon. We have not had a chance to us it yet, but the install is nice and clean

We had our's originally installed by SMI at a rally in 2007. I have since traded toads and moved the system to my new toad myself. The system works very well and we are very satisfied with it. Basically, you never feel the toad since the proportional braking is so smooth.
