Hope your trip is going well.
It sounds like an air leak to me. Most of your air system components are located near the front axle. You're equipped with an automatic (electrically activated) drain valve that will periodically open to purge moisture from the primary tank (if it's still working, mine plugged up and stopped working).
The compressor is located at the engine in the rear and I doubt you are hearing the normal pressure regulator release.
If you haven't already resolved the issue I would suggest taking it to any Freightliner truck service center and have them put it on a lift and check your air system for leaks.
I had an air issue last year that was a simple check-valve that went bad. Under $100 and $150 labor and all fixes.
This year I replaced one of the air tanks that had a very small crack. Called Freightliner Custom Chassis in Gafney and they gave me the part numbers off the original drawing for my specific chassis when they built it and I ordered an exact OEM tank from Freightliner Austin (all these parts seem to actually come from the parts center in Memphis). I suggest that you order all the major parts (like the tanks) from Freightliner with part numbers supplied by Gafney and don't let a truck shop try to find what they think are the right parts. I've had the experience of a shop trying to find the part themselves (not good). Call Gafney, or at least insist that whoever is working on your RV call Gafney and not the local Freightliner parts counter.
That's my twenty cents worth.
