Not dumb, just didn't have all the information. What you are saying about the switch (actually a valve) that controls the inflation of the suspension is correct. Don't change your procedure to level the coach.
If that valve is left in the inflated position after the engine is shut down, the integrity of the system, or its ability to retain pressure, is determined by how long it stays inflated. I just felt that for my coach to hold pressure for less than a day was not long enough and there might be a leak that needs to be addressed.
