I just over heated my engine climbing a hill
pulled over and saw the trans fluid boiling in the res. I was thinking of changing collant , trans fluid and eng oil. Any help would be appreciated.

You have a visible transmission fluid reservoir? Wow! My MH3000 just has a fill tube and no reservoir I can see.

At any rate, if the tranny got that hot then yes, changing the fluid is a good idea. especially if it was not synthetic (Transynd or equivalent). Synthetics hold up to heat better than "dino" fluids.

As for an oil change,I don't know but better safe than sorry, I guess.

I don't think a coolant change is indicated, though. I know of nothing in the coolant that would be affected by heat.

Changing the tranny oil to Transynd is a good recommendation, but this transmission still requires annual transmission oil changes (check with Allison). I had this transmission in my prior coach, and I stuck to Dexron III and changed it annually due to the cost of the synthetic.

I would also recommend you clean the rear radiator and charge air cooler. Probably the source of the overheating.

Later spec versions of Dexron are still compatible with Dexron III.

Caution regarding later versions of Dexron being compatible with Dexron III. Some are not.

You can still get ATF which is Dexron III compatible. Just make sure it is!

Can you give an example???

There is only one GM-defined Dexron spec that supersedes Dexron 3 and that is Dexron VI. Dexron VI is GM-certified for use in all older GM transmissions that require Dexron II or Dexron III.

Pulling from memory, I heard there was a Dexron IV product, which was not backwards compatible with Dex III.

I have not verified this.

There is no GM specification called Dexron IV - they skipped directly from Dexron III to Dexron VI (6) and VI is back-compatible for older GM transmissions that required Dexron II or III. However, Dexron III spec ATF is still available from many non-GM suppliers, so you may as well stick with that.
