Any here replace 99 HR Freightliner chassis air bags?

Discovered that I have a pinhole leak in one bag and may need to replace the unit.

What is the normal life span of an airbag on these coaches. Should I replace them all.

It is a big deal for a shadetree mech to tackle?

air bags like anything else if you have dealt with them before they are simple.
If you have never worked on one before it can be surprisingly tough.
OTR trucks have had air bags for years. just find a Truck Mechanic and your good.

BAD BOLT,
I too am interested in my air bags on our XC FRTLNR chassis. In talking to the help desk at FRTLNR, I was given the following part numbers for my RV. FRT bags: HALD 90557249, R bags HLD 90557249. Have not been able to find these parts on EBAY, AMAZON, or any other sites so far. Our coach is a 99 Fleetwood Discovery so these maybe old part numbers. I think they are HALDEX parts. Will see what happens.
Regards,
JimB

Has anyone found suitable place to get them from?

I've been quoted parts
Front NEW 90557249
Rear NEW 90557290

for our 03 Phaeton.

Let us know. Thanks,
Mike

The last time I replaced and air bag, it was a "FIRESTONE" part. Now that doesn't mean they're all Firestone but, it might be worth looking into.

P.S. I just cruised around on ebay and typed in "Firestone Air bag, Freightliner chassis" and the first one was this one:

Now, who knows if it would work for the OP here but, it might be worth a look.

Air Springs

I recently replaced the air springs (air suspension bags) on my 98 Tradewinds. They were not leaking, BUT were badly cracked and I no longer trusted them for long trips. I ended up ordering them from FCCC in Gaffney since they did not seem to be available aftermarket. I replaced the rear bags myself. It was a straightforward unbolt, remove, replace and rebolt. No problems. When I went to do the front ones, it became a different issue all together. I quickly realized that the I-beam front axle had to be unbolted and lowered in order to replace the front bags. Even though I have all the equipment, I just did not feel comfortable attempting to do that in my driveway. So, I took it to the closest Freightliner dealer and paid their $120/hour labor charge for them to do it.

p.s. I think the HLD in the part # refers to Safway Holland and not Haldex.

Thanks for the info. I'll check with FCCC.

Air Springs

I must have had a senior moment. Those company names are SAF Holland and Neway. In some listings, the part number is preceded by NEW for Neway, and in others it is preceded by HLD for Holland. There is a Firestone cross reference available online that cross references these part numbers to Firestone part numbers. However, I doubt you would save anything by purchasing the parts anywhere else. I have found FCCC to be competitive price-wise. Besides, I always feel better knowing they will ship me parts that actually fit without modification.

Sorry if I confused anyone.

Richard

I had my mechanic replace the fronts last year. I don't have the space to do it. I wish I would have posted the part numbers and brand. I want to do the rears this year if my guy is up to it. He's real busy with his day job.
