Started the coach on a cold day and got the message of "auto Idle" Checked on line and found that it has to do with the starting batteries. The threshold I understand, but why did the the voltage above the threshold info go higher than the threshold? Not knowing what it was at the time, I shut it down. Should I have left it running until the check info sign went out? Should I have restarted it, as some have done?

Maybe what you should do is call 1-800-Ftl-HELP. No doubt they will be able to answer you question.

Just let it run. Auto Idle increases the RPM's if it determines battery voltage below the 'threshold' lower limit. Once your system gets to the higher charge setting, I think it just keeps the engine going at the higher idle setting.
Note: It's not good to let diesels idle at low rpm's. That's why the system kicks up the rpm's, and you can set high idle yourself thru the cruise switch.
If you're going to drive the coach anyway, no need to let it high idle for any long period of time unless you're in fear of the coach not re-starting due to a low battery. Just drive it and the alternator will charge the battery.
If you're just exercising the engine, then shut it down once you have exceeded the threshold voltage level. Step on the brake to return it to low idle, or turn the cruise switch off, and shut the engine down after another minute or so.

Thanks. I am going to check on the water in the starting batteries today. Finally we are in the 40's and can venture out.

The "computer" just "sensed" the drain of voltage on start. Tap the brake to restore it to "normal" idle. Then watch your voltage indicator to be certain.
