Hi
I bought an 04 Expedition on a freightliner chassis that has 50k miles on her.
I changed the oil/filters (air, fuel, dryer) serviced the trans and greesed her along with replaceing the serpentine belt. I also had to wash out cooler and radiator as it was full of dirt as the temp guage would start to climb on hills. I am planning a trip after the 4th is there anything I am missing. The previous owner didnt keep records but says he did maintaince and the motorhome was kept in a garage when he wasnt useing it as the hoses are still soft. Coolant checks out good.
The coach runs great but I just want to be sure...

Sounds like only thing left to check are the tires, batteries, and the gen set, and all the "house" stuff.

You are due for what Freightliner calls an M3 chassis maintenance. Go to the FCCC web site and on the FCCC Service page you will see several downloadable checklists for various maintenance intervals (M1, M2, M3, generator, etc). Take a look at M3 in particular - 24k miles and/or 24 month interval.

FCCC is pretty conservative on change intervals, especially on transmission fluid changes, so you might want to go to the Allison and Cummins (or Cat) websites to get their specific recommendations on engine and tranny service.

Don't forget the generator has its own air, fuel and oil filters, as well as a drive belt of its own (1000 hr interval on that belt, if its an Onan).

Check the manufacture date on the side of your tires. If your coach is a 2004 it may have been manufactured in 2003. The tires may need to be replaced very soon.

I did the Generator service and ran it for about 8 hours(1/2 load) as it only had been used 260hrs.
Intresting about the tires as it was built in OCT 03 so I will get the dates. Even though it has 50k miles the tires appear in good condition but will check the date codes. Owner did provide me with trans,3 diff and radiator service recieps for trans and radiator service at 30k. I just transferd a 6yr 60k mile extended warranty (western general)along with a tire warranty that is for 7 years 70k miles..I will print out maintiance intervals..thanks

Check and see if the engine valves have been adjusted. That should have been done about the 30,000 mile mark. Other than that it sounds to me like you have a pretty good handle on it. Enjoy the rig.

Which engine does your Expedition have? ISC 330? ISB 300?

ISB with 6speed runs great and power was more than what I expected. decent MPG too as I bought it on e-bay and had to fly to Dallas and then drive it home..
So far it looks like I need to replace fuel line strainer..however I have no Idea whear it is..and also check ride height along with drain and refill hubs..

Mr. Bates, do you know a "Master Mechanic" that lives in your area of California? Perhaps he could come over and give you a helping hand. However, when and if you are ever in my neck of the woods, I would be more than eager to give you a helping hand! Good luck, Chuck.

Warren, I thought you would have responded by now, but when and if you get out our way, I'll just dive under your Expedition with my tool box and go to town. I'll be giving you a lot of tips about diesel mechanics so I expect you will have to pay close attention! Bagman57.

Warren,

Where are you? I live in OH too and can help out plus recommend some people/companies for other stuff.

I just sent you a PM. Also, if you want someone to vouch for my sincerity (and humour), ask Monaco Momma.

Ken
