I have reservations for us to attend a session in Las Vegas. My spouse dosen't think she should to attend since it is "mostly Chassis" information and she doesn't do chassis. My question is for those of you who have attended the sessions should I encourage her to attend? And if so what reasons can you give me to help changer her mind.
Thanks & Safe travels
Bob

Tough question since everyone's partner is different, but my wife really enjoyed the course. She is inquisitive, by nature, and wanted to understand more about what the coach was about. Some wives have no interest in the coach's underpinnings but want to enjoy the life style. Those folks will probably not enjoy themselves, although might enjoy the interaction with the other wives m

Sorry, that reply left early due to fat thumbs and an iPhone. The point I am trying to make is that there are some social aspects to the course that your wife might enjoy if she is normally open to meeting the other wives even if she has not technical interest.

Hope you both go and have fun.

If she is not interested, let her go play cards. (Visa, Master Card, American Express - at the Mall Outlet.)

Point is, if she is not interested, I wouldn't pursue it any further, but that's me. I attended in May. DW and friend did their card tricks. I enjoyed the course.

When I attended the class, there were husband and wife teams in the room. Mike does a good job in explaining the material so that the both of you will understand it. You don't have to be a gear head to enjoy Camp Freightliner. There may be other ladies in the class so your DW may have a kindred spirit!

Having attended in April '10 in Gaffney and schedule to attend next month in Oregon I did not encourage my DW to attend. She is not that interested in chassis information. She did attend the barbeque after the first days class. She did enjoy visiting with Mike the day after the class when we were camped out in the service center.

My wife enjoyed it; she made friends with the other wives, and like most of us, was very interested in some subjects, not so much with others. She tells other wives they should go, it makes our conversations easier when I discuss maintenance issues. Besides, she likes to keep an eye on me....

As others have said, each woman is different. As a woman who has attended Camp Freightliner, I have a couple of thoughts to share.

First, does your wife drive the MH? If she does, she may find the class helpful. I love to drive our MH, but I never liked the feeling of being so "clueless" about how it worked. The first time I had a "check engine" light come on and chimes started chiming, I was glad I attended the class. Mike does a great job of taking students through the various components of the dash. That alone was worth the price of admission (and time), as far as I was concerned.

We've also had a recent situation where we got a warning on the dash while my husband was at the wheel and I was able to dial 1-800-FTL-HELP by heart (Mike repeats it several times in class.) and have a helpful conversation with the tech who answered the phone.

This may sound geeky, but I really enjoyed Mike's tour of the "naked" chassis. Without a box sitting on top, it's easy to see what's what. I found that helpful.

MH maintenance isn't my "department", but I found it helpful to understand the maintenance schedules and issues and such. We've stopped in a couple of FTL service centers since the class (unfortunately), but it helped to have an understanding of what was up. Now I can listen to a FTL service writer and understand, ask reasonably intelligent questions and share in my husband's frustration when things don't go well.

I will confess that I started to glaze over somewhere in the second day when the talk turned to suspensions and such. Right about then, I just let the information "flow over me".

Would I attend again? Probably not. Am I glad I did it once? Absolutely.

Hope that helps,
Mary

MaverickBBD, Hi Bob and Cheryl, enjoyed meeting you at the CampFreightliner in Harrisburg this week. The class was awesome. We wish you luck on your fulltimer adventure, don't forget the doorstop, if you want one immediately, they can ship you one pronto. Take care and will probably see you in AZ this winter.
