I last had my oil changed at 4,000 miles just before I left on a big trip out west last summer. I have put about 9,000 miles on since my oil/filter change. I just checked my oil level and I was about 3 quarts low. My Cat C-7 holds a total of 19 quarts with the oil filter. Is this unusual after 9,000 miles?

Regarding the Cat Oil filter, does anyone happen to know the part number for the filter on my '06 Discovery 39S?

Thanks for your assistance.

Sounds about right. We just returned from a 4,000 mile trip to the west coast. Engine, which has 15,000 miles on it, used one quart of oil on trip. Make sure your dipstick has been calibrated properly.

Cat oil filter = 1R-1807

I agree w/ Teach. I bet part of the 3 quart low was from the oil change and measurement error.

I had a similar situation in my Allison tranny, when I did the initial 5K filter change. Tranny selector system showed the oil was 3 qts low, and you lose about 1.5 qts doing the filter change. I am now convinced it was low from the factory.

On the next oil change (every 11k miles for the CAT) check the oil level after about 500 miles and see where it sits.

I think it would be unusual to use any oil. I'm on my second C7, currently 16,000 miles, and I have never had to add oil between annual changes.
If you have a Freightliner chassis, the dip stick should have come from the factory calibrated for 19 qts. My 2006 did. So did the 2004 I used to have.
