My coach is due for it's first oil change (the first while I've owned it). I took it to a shop today that quoted me a fair price. I asked them to replace the fuel filter as well, and gave them the spare one that I carry in my tool kit. I about fell over when they told me that it would be an additional $55 to replace the filter that I handed them. I'm not a tight wad, but that seems rediculous. I've never replaced a CAT fuel filter, but it's easy to gain access to and it's a spin-on, so how hard could it be? Any tips before I make a mess in my driveway?

I hope you like the smell of diesel in the morning They were probably charging you for 1/2 hr labor to swap the filter.
Just remember to prime the filter if you do decide to change it yourself.

Craig, change it out yourself. The fuel spill is minimal and the degree of difficulty is such that the shops relegate the task to the clean-up boy.

I also wanted the fuel filter changed. I tried to do it myself but could not reach it from the ground. It also could not be changed fron the area below my bed. I beleive that Freightliner charged me about $75. They would have to put on a lift to change it. I asked freightline to give me a price on locating the filter down near the frame. You came buy a remote filter kit, but Freightliner said that it would void the waranty!
