Check Engine Light

cat 3126B 300 HP
Check engine light came on and off for about 15 minutes. Drove for another 200 miles with the check engine light remained off. During the 15 minutes with the intermittent check engine light the cruise control would not work. When I stopped for the night and ran my Silver Leaf VMspec software there was no error code registered. This engine does not have OBDII. Does VMspec register engine error codes? Is there any common components for the cruise control and check engine light?

Update:
From truckersreport.com I determined how to get error codes from the CAT engine. The method is to turn off cruise control depress the set resume button for about 5 seconds and the check engine light will flash indicating the error code. 5 flashes followed by a space and 5 more flashes indicates no codes were stored. My test showed five by five so no error codes were stored.
During the problem all guages and power were normal.
