Combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

Hi there everyone,

We have a 2003 Allegro Bus which is 40 feet long and powered by a 350 HP Cummins diesel. We tow a 2008 Honda CRV. We know what the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of the motorhome is, it is on a sticker in the motorhome. However, we don't know what the Combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is. Does anyone know how we can figure that out? Maybe based on the VIN Number some how?

Thank you in advance for your assistance in regards to this question.

Safe Travels.

I agree, that is where I should find it, but sadly, it is not.

Just went and checked my stickers and you are right, the GCWR is not on either tag, the Ford and the REV sticker.

I guess the fall back is sales materials. The GCWR is determined by the chassis manufacturer, not the motorhome manufacturer unless they make the chassis too.

Searching found Tiffin used a Freightliner chassis and this link is for the 2003 Allegro Bus.

The GCWR is not required to be on the compliance labels. You have to go to the original sales brochure for that model of RV and in the specs the GCWR will be listed.

I have a old specifications for the 2003 Allegro Bus and for 40GP and 40TGP GCWR is 39,140. The copy I have is not in great shape, I will scan it and if it turns out readable I post a copy.

The max towing load is normally listed by the builder. In may case winnebago installed a 5K hitch. When I call FL they said the build could easily handle 10K but the hitch installed by the builder is the limiting factor. Limits the liability of the builder

I had a custom hitch manufactured and pull a 10K with no problems. I know the combination is ticket-able but that is the chances we take. I have a load equalizer hitch and all the tires are improved. we run 110 on the rears. Normally have about 900 lbs on the ball and 9K on the trailer tires. All my tire run about the same temperature of 135 and all are within 10 degrees so thing must be OK.

It's a Freightliner chassis, so a call to FCCC with your VIN (last 6 digits) will get you an answer to that and any other chassis question. 1-800-FTL-HELP, 24/7

I tried that and they told me to call Tiffin. They , Tiffin, told me that the max combined gross vehicle weight was the weight of the motorhome + 10000 lb. Then kindly somebody on this forum thread told me about the link at fccc. So obviously, Freightliner knew about it, but text support representative that I talk to, wasn't aware of it. We're all good now though! :-)

Probably they were worried about liability (as is often the case these days). There exists the possibility that Tiffin lowered the GCWR, e.g. by installing a lesser rated receiver or some other mod in the final assembly. Legally, it is the responsibility of the "final manufacturer" (Tiffin, in this case) to set the GVWR and GCWR. Almost zero chance that they reduced what the base chassis had, though.
