I checked my chassis on the FL website. I have a 2004 chassis according to my VIN #. But according to the FL chassis spec index, I have a 2003. I do not understand. How can a manufacture ask for certain specs but build on adifferent chassis specs?

I'm willing to guess that it was built with the manufacturer's specs but in the prior calendar year.

This is standard practice in the MH industry, as there's probably about 3 months between when the chassis is built vs. when the coach is built.

On our 2004 Gulf Stream:

08/2003 Chassis Built Date
11/06/2003 Gulf Stream Built Date for Coach
09/2004 We purchased new from dealer

Our chassis was 13 months old and the motorhome was 10 months old BUT it was a new coach when we purchased it.

The MH industry may use this practice. But you can not compare MH from the same manufacture unless you know the chassis and date of build. For instance and 04 with an 03 FL build chassis. the next could be an 04 on a spartan chassis or workhorse chassis, etc. How is this fair to the consumer?

I am not exactly sure what it is you are trying to say... The chassis could be built say 07/06 but would still be an 04 chassis... This all depends on the model and year they are building it for... This is common amungst many manufacturers and not just MH...

The only thing i can suspect is that it is a 04 model but built with "03 specs" Doesnt mean you are getting or have older partsor outdated things it might just be the year that the parts are from or something... Nothing unfair that I can think of from my understanding of things... Not sure if that clarified anything for ya but i am trying

As an example for what FTP emp is saying, my '05 Journey was built by Winnebago in Sept '04 but the chassis was built in April '04.

I believe I read somewhere the model year at FCCC Gaffney begins April 1st and the "engineering" year for Caterpiller begins January 1st.

My next coach (in my next lifetime) will be a custom order made on October 1st so I know exactly what I'm getting in advance and, hopefully, with most of the bugs worked out.
